Reading rocks at Santa Clara library

If you’re looking for a way to beat the heat, and activate your brain, it’s time to check out the Santa Clara library.

One of the branches of the Washington County library system.
Santa Clara library is part of the Washington County library system.

One of eight branches of the Washington County Library system, the Santa Clara library is located at 1099 N. Lava Flow Drive, Santa Clara.

Nestled just off Sunset Drive in Santa Clara, the Santa Clara library is situated for convenience for Santa Clara residents, but it can also be used by anyone holding a Washington County library card. In order to maximize the number of books and other resources available, the Santa Clara library shares back and forth with the other libraries in the Washington County system.

So even though it’s a small library, there are still plenty of resources available.

Encourage reading

If you’re looking to encourage your children to read, the Santa Clara library offers several tips. For starters, take a look at yourself. When was the last time you read a book, just for fun?

According to the Santa Clara library newsletter, 80 percent of parents say it is important to have their children read books for fun. However, only 21 percent of parents actually read every day. And 53 percent of children of high-frequency readers are reading books for fun each day.

Few people will argue the merits of reading, particularly during the summer. After all, studies show that students who read regularly during the summer do not experience the same “summer slide,” where literacy skills diminish during the summer break.

As you can see, the Santa Clara library is a valuable resource to the community. Encouraging reading is important and the Santa Clara library has many ways to do that.
