A-Mazing: St George corn maze

Sometimes when you need to unwind, the best way is to just get lost — in a giant St George corn maze. Other times, you need a scare. Either way, Staheli Farm is the place to go.

The design of St George corn maze

Playing on all the different parts of the word, the St George corn maze is actually called Staheli Corn Maize. Clever. This year’s design incorporates a big “Thank you” to farmers everywhere. It also serves as a nod to the St George corn maze title sponsor of Culver’s. It is difficult to see the intricacy of the design when you are making your way through a field of corn. However, an aerial photograph available on the Staheli Farm web site shows several farming images. You can see a tractor, windmill and a few plants.

For newcomers to the St George corn maze

The Staheli Farm St George corn maze has been part of the fall attractions in the area for 16 years. But for those who are new to the idea, rest assured they have considered many of the questions you may have.

Patrons stepping foot inside the St George corn maze will find that the further you go into the maze, the more difficult it becomes. But since there is no time limit on your time in the St George corn maze, you don’t need to worry. You are also allowed to bring a flashlight if you need.

Those interested in checking out the St George corn maze will ride a tractor across the street from the main Staheli Farm entrance and attractions and then walk through the maze on foot.

Because the entire area is part of a working farm, dirt and mud are part of the game. So come dressed in old clothes, closed toe shoes and bring a jacket when evening temperatures get cool.

Community, scout and church groups are welcome to enjoy the maze. And there are group rates available.

Maps are available to take inside the maze if you choose. You can also make your own teams and have a race, or just wander through at your leisure.

More farm fun

In addition to getting lost and eventually found inside the St George corn maze, there are many other fun things to do at Staheli Family Farm.

Field of Screams

Taking the idea of a corn maze to the level of fear, the Field of Screams is a separate but even more popular part of the events surrounding the St George corn maze.

Similar to a haunted house, the Field of Screams uses realistic props and flashing lights, frightening noises, power tools and actors who are trained specifically to scare the people coming through.

Spooky Trick-or-Treat Trail

Not everyone who loves Halloween is old enough to appreciate an adult-sized scare. Never fear… Staheli Farm and St George corn maze has thought of the little ones too. Children are led through a small, “slightly haunted” shack. According to the Staheli Farm web site, the attraction is “the perfect way for kids to enjoy the fun of a haunted house while still being able to sleep in their own beds at night.”

Once the haunted house tour is through, children have a chance to trick-or-treat nearby doors. Children are transported to and from the haunted house via a Cow Train. Parents of children can walk to the haunted area to join their children as they exit the cow train.
